The 24th ONE SHOT International Short Film Festival opened on June 8 at the Cinema House in Yerevan. The festival is taking place from June 8 to 15, organized by Open Platform with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia and the festival’s partners.
The opening ceremony featured performances by the KHAZER Choir, presenting Armenian national and classical music rooted in the Komitas school and tradition. The festival opened with “Isn’t Today the Day?”, a short film by renowned contemporary artist Grigor Khachatryan, based on a story by William Saroyan. The evening also included techno and industrial music by THE99.
Festival screenings have been held since June 9 at Open Platform’s Chamber Cinema Hall. The programme includes 109 films, as well as masterclasses, meetings, discussions and exchanges of artistic experience.
This year’s programme features three competition sections and special non-competition programmes. The ONE MINUTE ONE SHOT competition includes 51 films. The jury is chaired by Armenian film director, film critic and professor Garegin Zakoyan. The jury members are Vahan Khachatryan, film director and XR environment designer, and Harut Makyan, film director, screenwriter and producer.
The SHORT FILMS competition includes 23 films. The jury is chaired by Petr Pirunčík, translator and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Czech Republic to the Republic of Armenia. The jury members are Flora Borovyk from Ukraine, film critic, actress and contemporary dancer, and Essam Nagy from Egypt, documentary filmmaker and producer.
The CINEMA WITHOUT BORDERS competition includes 21 films and is judged by Nune Hakhverdyan, journalist, art critic and media analyst. The special non-competition programmes include 14 films.
The festival presents films from 18 countries: Armenia, the United States, Germany, Thailand, Iran, Spain, Italy, Poland, Croatia, India, the United Kingdom, Norway, China, Palestine, Portugal, Russia, Serbia and France.
